A publication today about yesterday.
In the space between history, literature and journalism, there is a fuzzy intersection that gives rise to a genre we could call authorial history. Overseen by Toni Soler, this main goal of the publication is not to disseminate, analyze or discover, but rather to urge its authors and readers to enjoy the pleasure of reading and reflecting on the past. It takes as a reference Stefan Zweig, the writer who best embodied this dual vocation, and pays tribute to him by using the title of his memoirs, The World of Yesterday 1(or El món d’ahir in Catalan), as its masthead. El món d’ahir brings together texts by contemporary narrators who write about the past and historical texts of high literary value.
The masthead occupies a predominant portion of the cover. It features a classical, but emphatic typeface with an inclination in the A that, with its feet in the present, looks to the past.
Understanding the publication as the object holding all this content, the tinted edges turn it into a block of color, almost as if it were a closed box, tempting the public.
The art direction strives to establish its own discourse and dialogue with the text. Contemporary art and photography can bring about a parallel discourse, a rereading or interpretation of the text, challenging the reader or drawing links between the text and the present day.
A simple mock-up that oscillates between classicism and radicalism. One that sometimes intervenes, actively, forming part of the discourse of the article.
